Low Vision Assessments with Cirta
What happens in a Low Vision assessment?
You will receive a short questionnaire prior to your consultation in order to make sure that the Low Vision clinic is the appropriate clinic for assessing and addressing your visual needs and to help in tailoring the assessment to your needs and circumstances.
The consultation includes some or all of the following:
- Comprehensive assessment of your visual needs, your current support and your visual difficulties
- Visual function tests
- Provision of specialist low vision aids
- Advice and provision of technology for visual impairment
- Recommendations about reading and viewing strategies, tailored to your specific condition
- Recommendations about other coping strategies and sight substitution techniques
- Support in the process of sight impairment certification and registration, if eligible
- Liaising with sight loss charities and other health care professionals
- Following the assessment, a summary report will be provided on request along with appropriate information sheets which were developed for this clinic
What is not included in a Low Vision assessment?
The Low Vision assessment does not replace a sight test.* It is therefore recommended that you attend your regular optometrist for a sight test and address any issues before your Low Vision assessment if you have not already done so.
*In Scotland, sight tests are funded by General Ophthalmic Services (GOS). For children under 16 years of age and adults over 60, the recommended interval is usually 1 year. For adults (16-59 years of age) this is usually 2 years. Exceptions apply. More information can be found here:
